Vegas Week - So You Think You Can Dance Season 9

The open auditions are over. 181 dancers have earned tickets to the next stage. Over the next 4 days, they are going to face 8 ruling rounds:
1. Solos
2. Hip Hop
3. Broadway
4. Jazz
5. Groups
6. Ballroom
7. Contemporary
8. Final Solos

Not everyone will be able to take the pressure. Only 20 dancers will make it to the end of the week and it's not going to be easy.

Judges include:
- Lil'C
- Debbie Allen
- Adam Shankman
- Tyce Diorio
- Mary Murphy
- Nigel Lythgoe

First up is Hampton Williams from Richardson, Texas and he needs to impress the Vegas panel:

Waiting on the wings is 23 year old Jannelle Issis who's excited to rock the stage:

At the end of the solos, 51 dancers were cut.
It's time for Hip Hop and choreographers Comfort and Twitch are not gonna be easy on them.
At the end of the 1st day in Vegas, 97 dancers have made it to the Hip Hop round.

The next challenge is the Broadway round. Ballroom dancers are making it but contemporary dancers are having a hard time. The choreography looks like everybody's pushed to their limits.
Here's team ballroom with the Broadway choreography round:

Over half of the contestants were cut by the end of the Broadway round.
Next is the jazz round, then the Groups round wherein they'd get to pick their own group.
Each group are going to pick their CD in random then start to rehearse.

Here's the best group choreography performance:

The remaining 61 contestants went on to the Ballroom round, 9 were cut and 52 dancers are moving on to the Contemporary round. After everyone has danced the contemporary choreography, some dancers were not able to make it.

All that's left is the final solos. Here are some of the final solos:

35 dancers were able to make it to the Vegas week!

Utah Auditions - So You Think You Can Dance Season 9

It's the final stop of the audition tour for season 9 and I'm naturally talking about the breathtaking beauty, raw power and inspiring Utah dancers.

Joining Mary Murphy and Nigel Lythgoe in the judges seat is film producer, director and choreographer Adam Shankman.

Doing cha-cha tango in her auditions, Witney Carson from American Fork, Utah amazed the judges:

Lynn Gravatt from Portland, Oregon feels that her soul is from the stars:

Deanna "Dee" Tomasetta from Millbury, MA says her boyfriend is dance:

Gene Lonardo from Las Vegas, Nevada tells the story of a male praying mantis in his dance:

Lindsay Arnold from Provo, Utah danced ballroom in her audition:

Nervous and happy at the same time, here's Murphy Yang from Roy, Utah:

Here's Dareian Kujawa from Boulder City, Nevada:

This pair's focus is mainly on dance. Here's Johnny Ahn and Whitney Hallam, both from Orem, Utah:

Another repeater, Adrian Lee from Los Angeles, California wants to be in the show more than ever. He was so close last time and felt that he can never give up:

Here's Rachel Applehans from Denver, Colorado:

The final soloist of the Utah auditions inspired the judges and got a standing ovation from the audience. Here's Leroy Martinez from Sacramento, California:

The audition tour is over and the best dancers in America are moving on to the next level of Auditions in Vegas! And they will be pushed to the limits.

Atlanta Auditions 2nd Day - So You Think You Can Dance Season 9

Competitive dancers lined up for the second day of the Atlanta auditions.

Dancing for 14 years now, Courtney Kirby showed a magnificent audition solo. She was taught by her grandmother to dance who happened to be a dance teacher:

If you dance hiphop, you don't really need tricks to stand out. Asher Walker from Glade Hill, Virginia practices in the garage and wanted to become a back up dancer for Justin Beiber if he could:

The best audition in Atlanta for Mary Murphy. Here's George Lawrence II from Atlanta, Georgia:

Brittany Ortner, from Oviedo, Florida finds her hometown weird because there are live chickens walking on the road protected by law.

After the choreography round Brittany Ortner finally got her ticket to Vegas along with 13 other Geogia Dancers.

Atlanta Auditions 1st day - So You Think You can Dance Season 9

Last time, America's favorite dancer is from Georgia (Melanie). So many here is hoping to take her place, they spend years training for this moment and today is their opportunity to shine.

Legendary Debbie Allen made here guest appearance a judge along with Ballroom expert Mary Murphy and Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe.

First contestant was Audrey Case from Edmond, Oklahoma. She performed very well with her solo and was given a standing ovation from both the audience and the judges and got her ticket straight to Vegas:

Here's hiphop dancer Boris Penton from Atlanta, Georgia:

A musician from Columbia, South Carolina danced his best and got an instant ticket to Vegas. Here's Joshua Alexander's Audition:

Tim Conkel is a karate instructor from Atlanta Georgia. He started dancing because he wanted to get girls. He's a Selena Gomez fan and aims not only to become America's favorite dancer but America's favorite person too:

Andre Rucker and Animator Cyrus "Glitch" Spencer both from Atlanta, Georgia are Boris Penton's roommates. They both got tickets to Vegas too.
Here's Andre:
And here's Cyrus:

After the choreography round, Jannelle Issis (the belly dancer) and 14 other dancers made it through.

Los Angeles Auditions - So You Think You Can Dance Season 9

Some people dream of sandy beaches and palm trees. Others long for a shot of becoming America's favorite dancer. But in Los Angeles, you can have it all.

For the third leg of the audition tour, hundreds of dancers danced in their leg to show up their moves.

ABC's Modern Family actor (portraying Mitchell Pritchett) took a seat beside Mary Murphy (Ballroom expert) and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe to be the guest judge for the LA Auditions.

Alexa Andeson from Chandler, Arizona is a repeater from Season 8. She was so close to the final 20 last season and she's hoping to be given a chance on her 2nd shot this year.

Jontel "Johnny Waaks" Gibson from Portland, Oregon thinks that he was born in the wrong era.

Ready to show everything she have is an aerial pole dancer Eliana Girard from West Palm Beach, Florida.

Prepare to meet the most outrageous duo in California! James and Nick Aragon, from Los Angeles, California call themselves the Ninja Twins who consider themselves the socialites in L.A. Unfortunately the judges cannot put them through because they're over the age bracket.
They have one of the flashiest auditions in L.A.

Six months ago this girl came home from dance and her bedroom was all packed up and was told by her mom that she couldn't live there anymore. Her bestfriend offered that she live with her and her new family (her bestfriend's family) has been very supportive with her love of dance. Here's Sam Lenarz from LaVerne, California:

Cole Horibe from Honolulu, Hawaii used to resist the idea that his dancing is like Martial Arts but soon took it to his advantage:

One of the most unique auditions in So You Think You Can Dance History is from a Circus performer David Matz from Los Angeles, California:

From Cincinnati, Ohio, Stephen Jacobsen a ballet dancer (for 17 years) was trying to impress the judges with his different kind of ballet.

Jonathan Anzalone from Milan, Italy was able to audition on the 4th Season of SYTYCD. He waited for 4 more seasons before he came back to audition.

Jazz Dancer Jasmine Mason and Contemporary Dancer Marshea Kidd had one of the most shocking stories in 9 seasons:

In the choreography round Robert Roldan took everyone through the steps.
After the choreography round, Sam Lenarz including 20 other dancers were given their tickets to Vegas for the next round of auditions.
